Description: A fantastic ORIGINAL WW2 GERMAN ARMY (HEERESKARTE) map which was printed in JUNE 1944, in response to OPERATION FORTITUDE SOUTH. OPERATION FORTITUDE SOUTH was part of the deception plan employed by the Allies in the run up, during and after the D-DAY LANDINGS. Its aim was to deceive Germany into thinking the main Allied Invasion would occur on the beaches around CALAIS rather than NORMANDY. After months of leaking false intelligence and the build up of a huge phantom army, the plan successfully delayed the deployment of huge numbers of available German reinforcements to combat the real invasion. So convincing was the deception, that the plan was continued throughout Operation Overlord in order to keep the Germans guessing. Measures approximately 65cm x 60cm, and will be shipped as per its existing fold lines. In good condition for its age, with some staining from use in the field.
