Series 2:Comprises of 8 volumes which include Union and Confederate correspondence, orders, reports and returns relating to Prisoners of War alongside political prisoners. Series 3:This series comprises of 5 volumes and includes miscellaneous Union correspondence, orders and reports related to the organisation and logistics of the Union war effort. The series also includes calls for troops, communications between National and State authorities as well as communications between Union and Confederate authorities. Series 4:Comprises of 3 volumes and includes miscellaneous Union correspondence, orders and reports related to the Confederacy. Also included in this series are the General and Special orders of the Confederate States Army alongside communications related to conscriptions and blockage running. Finally a general index published in 1901 provides additions and corrections to prior volumes.
