Description: This listing is for two16th century editions of the Catholic Manuscript, Decretales Gregorii Papæ IX. The first copy that is pictured is from 1550 and was willed to me by a friend who passed away several years ago. He purchased it in the early 2000s and told me that it was restored in the late 19th century. The cover was restored and given gold leaf lettering. The pages were trimmed and the edges were gilded. The second copy is from 1587, which I purchased in Paris on the late 90s. This copy is 100% original and has not undergone any restoration. It still has the original Vellum cover that has a section of the spine cracked and missing as shown in the pictures. The pages have some water damage and other pages have browning due to its age. I have owned these for a very long time, and I realized the other day that I never look at them anymore, and thought that it may be time to let these go so another could enjoy them. These books are uncommon to see for sale, and this auction is a chance to purchase both a restored and an original condition copy.
