The Rods are a somewhat unique easy to install High-Performance weight for Pinewood Cars. Unique in the fact that it may be the only weight that can provide 2.10 - 2.11 oz (59.81 grams) using 6 Rods behind the rear axle as well as measuring slightly over 1/4" in diameter can provide a low center of gravity as well as allows you to keep the car body thin. In all of our testing 2.10 - 2.11 oz (59.81 grams) has proven to be the optimum weight behind the rear axle for producing the fastest cars as the car transitions from the ramp to the flat. Using the optimum weight is only one part of the process of building a fast car. There are many other factors that go into building a fast car. However, it starts with a weight that can provide optimal speed. The car in the 5th Photo (Showing the bottom of the car with the rods installed) was from a customer who used the Rods and won their District Race out of 4000 cars. We've heard from numerous customers who won their District race using our Rods. The Rods are slightly over (1/4") @ 9/32" Diameter x Slightly less than 9/16" Long and weigh approximately .35 oz each (+/-). A 9/32" Diameter drill bit will work. Easy to install, just drill a hole in the side of the car body where you want to locate the weight and drop them in with a little glue. Drilling the holes and installing the Rods before cutting the shape of the car is typically easiest. Or for a more advanced installation you can cut out the bottom of the car as shown in the photos above. Two rows of 3 Rods (As shown in the pics) provide 2.10 - 2.11 oz (59.81 grams) +/- of weight behind the rear axle producing optimum speed. Finish adding weight in front of the rear axle with a combination of Rods and Cubes or Tungsten Putty etc. (Example in pic 4) Keep in mind that the weight of your cars body will determine how much more weight you can add in front of the rear axle. The pic provided was a very light car body and is for example of weight placement only.
