Description: Lustrous Aquamarine w/Muscovite, Pingwu, Sichuan Province, China, 5.5 x 4.3 x 2 cm Description: · A large miniature specimen of Aquamarine, the light blue variety of the mineral beryl with Muscovite. It is so lustrous that the color looks more like “ice-blue” · A uniquely single solid gem that has two distinct layers, and it is approximately 2 cm thick. Top surface layer is naturally transparent and extremely lustrous whereas the other layer beneath is clear to translucent · Source: Pingwu, Sichuan Province, China · Size: Approximately 5.5 x 4.3 x 2 cm · Condition: Good, on display in cabinet only. This featured large miniature specimen is a very unique natural occurring Aquamarine crystal (the blue variety of the mineral beryl). It is a solid piece, like a floater, approximately 2 cm thick, with two distinct layers plus several outstanding properties: 1. The top surface layer is the main attraction as it is naturally transparent and extremely lustrous, with a surface that is both uniquely smooth and textured/etched. The exterior of this top surface layer demonstrates etching where minerals have been washed away/eroded by hydrothermal water during its formation, hence showing “crater-like” impressions. 2. This top surface layer is filled with natural occurring inclusions, with light blue veinlets, including some crystalline planes within that exhibit strong double refraction properties which allows light to flow through and/or reflect upon it. The key attraction in this layer is the stunning and unique ice-blue color plus the multiple rainbow hues that are truly breath-taking! The blue color of Aquamarine is due to presence of iron (Fe) in two oxidation states (ferric and ferrous) and the charge transfer between these ions. It is also extremely lustrous and the ice-blue color is both stunning and also soothing, with some associated muscovite sheets attached to one corner of the specimen that also have a pearly luster. 3. Another outstanding mineral property is this featured specimen exhibits the properties of a “record keeper”. There is a small slightly raised triangular shape found on one end of the crystal face with the top of the triangle pointing upward like a termination as clearly shown in two of the pictures. 4. The other layer beneath the top surface layer is mostly translucent due to the natural occurring inclusions and impurities, but there are also some crystalline planes along the edges with some transparency and even some rainbow hues. This layer sparkles under light and it also resembles an iceberg. Very intriguing indeed! Aquamarine, an important gemstone variety, is the blue variety of Beryl and this featured specimen is truly a one-of-a-kind, a beauty in its own right, a single solid gem that is thick, sturdy, sparkles, filled with luster and rainbow hues plus many other outstanding properties unlike other Aquamarine specimens. The Muscovites are neatly tugged in one corner of the specimen, so the crystal can be on full display to showcase its natural beauty. With all these outstanding natural properties, this specimen is truly worthy as a must have in any mineral collection! This fine specimen can be yours for $38 plus shipping and handling. Specimen Background information: Aquamarine is the greenish-blue to blue variety of Beryl. It forms in beautiful crystals that can be quite large and totally transparent. Aquamarine is composed of Beryllium aluminum silicate and colors range from greenish-blue, light-blue, sky-blue, deep sky-blue. These crystals can be transparent to translucent with a vitreous luster. The blue color of Aquamarine is due to presence of iron (Fe) in two oxidation states (ferric and ferrous) and the charge transfer between these ions, as with this featured specimen. They originated with a hexagonal crystal system and often appears as perfect, six-sided hexagons, and usually in individual prismatic crystals; also, in short, stubby crystals, and occasionally in tabular crystals and flattened hexagonal plates. The bases of Beryl crystals are usually flat; pyramidal terminations are less common. Also occurs in columnar aggregates, in distorted etched crystals, and in massive form. As for the mineral Muscovite, it belongs to the mica family and is composed of potassium aluminum silicate. Its name is derived from "Muscovy Glass", which describes thick sheets of transparent mica. Like other micas it readily cleaves into thin transparent sheets. Muscovite sheets have a pearly to vitreous luster on their surface. Note: **All specimens are taken in natural and regular lighting only. This featured specimen looks better in person in order to appreciate its true natural ice-blue color, the clarity, the unique formation habit, including the rainbow hues, luster, double refraction and other unique properties, which can be difficult to capture in its entirety on camera. Please also note that color may be a little different due to the color calibration of each individual monitor or light levels. **As with all genuine mineral specimens, there may be natural occurring inclusions, impurities, cleavages, formations and impressions, including etching, imperfections and excavation marks. We have posted close up pictures at all angles for your viewing pleasure in this listing, to show you the fine details, color, form, structure and overall beauty of this fine specimen. **We will only ship to the 48 contiguous U.S. states (No International). **All orders ship within 3-5 business days after receiving cleared payment.
