He studied design at the School of Fine Arts. His first significant steps in fashion began with his work with the great couturier Christian Dior, where he learned the art of creating exquisite female images. After Dior's death, he continued to work with Yves Saint Laurent, who temporarily headed the house of Dior. In 1962, Scherrer founded his own fashion house on Avenue Montaigne in Paris. His collections quickly became synonymous with sophisticated elegance and luxury. He used expensive fabrics such as silk, fur and satin to create glamorous evening dresses that attracted the attention of the stars and the aristocracy.
