When the first glass Christmas ornaments were created in Thuringian region of Germany, Birgit’s ancestors were there. This exquisite ornament was designed by Birgit and hand–crafted in the same manner used by her ancestors; Birgit is from one of Germany’s premier glassblowing families. Her amazing heritage of craftsmanship and artistry is evident in each ornament she creates. Due to the extraordinary skill and time required to bring each ornament to life, Birgit’s Christmas Collection was, and still is, one of the most limited and collectible ornament collections offered. Each design is retired after its very limited production. From Birgit’s “My Favorite Season” collection, “Peter the Racer” has a "vintage" Old World Christmas catalog number of #132. This long retired ornament is in new condition. This precious hand painted and glittered blown-glass ornament measures 5". It comes in a see-through plastic ornament box with a certificate of authenticity. This nostalgic Old World ornament was painstakingly mouth-blown into an original ornament mold. Once the ornament cooled, a solution of hot liquid silver was poured inside, giving the ornament its shine and reflectivity. After this stage, the ornament was elegantly hand-painted in festive Christmas colors. Finally, the long stem was carefully cut and the distinctive star cap attached. It took approximately seven days to create this heirloom quality ornament!
