I NEVER SANG FOR MY FATHER PLAY CAST - SHOW BILL SIGNED CO-SIGNED BY: HAL HOLBROOK, LILLIAN GISH, ALAN SCHNEIDER, EARL SYDNOR - HFSID 295913 I NEVER SANG FOR MY FATHER PLAY CAST: CO-SIGNED BY: LILLIAN GISH, HAL HOLBROOK, EARL SYDNOR and ALAN SCHNEIDER Playbill signed by three stars and the director of this 1968 stage production. Show Bill signed: "Lillian Gish", "Hal Holbrook", "Earl Sydnor" and "Al Schneider", 56 pages, 6x9. I Never Sang for My Father, directed by Alan Schneider and starring Lillian Gish and Hal Holbrook, ran at the Longacre Theatre, New York, New York, opening on January 25, 1968 and closing on May 11, 1968. LILLIAN GISH (1896-1993), born Lillian de Guiche, began her career as child actress "Baby Lillian" at the age of five. Lillian and her sister, Dorothy (1898-1968), who often toured with Lillian, made their film debuts (along with their mother, Mary Gish) in D.W. Griffith's film, An Unseen Enemy in 1912. Over the next several years, Lillian, who is credited as being the first true actress for recognizing the crucial differences between stage and film work and delivering carefully crafted performances, would make a number of films for Griffith, including The Birth of a Nation (1915), Intolerance (1916), Way Down East (1920) and Orphans of the Storm (1922). In 1923, she went to MGM, where she made La Boheme and The Scarlet Letter (both 1926). In 1930, Gish appeared in her first sound film, One Romantic Night (1930). Lillian, who was known as "The First Lady of the Silent Screen", was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for Duel in The Sun (1946) and received an honorary Oscar in 1970 for her contributions to film. HAL HOLBROOK (1925-2021), shot to fame with his Tony-winning one-man show, Mark Twain Tonight!, which debuted on Broadway in 1966. His fame enabled him to flourish as a starring actor in numerous non-Twain projects, such as The Group (1966), Wild in the Streets (1968), Magnum Force (1973), The Star Chamber (1987), Wall Street (1987), The Firm (1993) and The Majestic (2001). In 1976, Holbrook was Oscar-nominated for his character, "Deep Throat", in All the President's Men. A multi-Emmy winner, he has appeared on a number of TV shows, including in recurring roles on Designing Women, 1986-1989, Evening Shade, 1990-1994), and The West Wing (2001-2002). In 2008, at age 82, he supplanted Ralph Richardson as the oldest actor ever nominated for an Oscar (for Into the Wild). EARL SYDNOR (1907-1989) was a stage actor for over 40 years. His Broadway performances include Two On An Island (1940), Cabin in the Sky (1940-1941), The Skin of Our Teeth (1942-1943), Sweet Bird of Youth (1959-1960), I Never Sang for My Father (1968) and First Monday in October (1978). Director ALAN SCHNEIDER (1917-1984) directed plays on Broadway from 1948 to 1980. He is the winner of four Drama Desk Awards and the 1963 Tony Award for Best Direction in a Play (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?). Overall fine condition.
