Description: A beautiful print rendered in etching and drypoint by the German artist Carl Josef Bauer (1897-1989). The image is a sensitive and tender depiction of two women and it is hand signed in pencil by the artist in the lower margin. The plate measures 8 1/2 x 6 3/4 inches, sheet size is approx. 12 x 10 inches with deckel edges on two sides. It is printed on cream colored wove paper that has a hint of a mat line around the image and a small tear along the right edge many inches away from the image, otherwise it is in excellent condition. Carl Josef Bauer (1897-1989) was a German painter and notable etcher. Bauer was born in Munich, there he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts with Professors Wilhelm von Diez and Angelo Jank. He exhibited widely in the Munich area, most notably at the famous "Glaspalast" (glass palace). Bauer served as President of the art association Allotria for ten years. Many of his etchings are in the Art Deco style, those created between 1914 and 1928 were published by Hanfstaegl in Munich.
