Description: THROUGH A LAND OF EXTREMES - THE LITTLEDALES OF CENTRAL ASIA, by Elizabeth & Nicholas Clinch, Signed, 2009Through a Land of Extremes - The Littledales of Central Asia. Clinch, Elizabeth & Nicholas. Gloucestershire, England: The History Press, 2009. Later edition. Signed by both authors on the title page with short dedication and a note from Nicholas to the former owners on the opposing page. The Littledales, St. George and Teresa, were the greatest Central Asia travelers of their day in the late 1800s, venturing to lands that were further afield than almost any other Western explorers. St. George was an accomplished hunter, sending back trophies from their travels to British museums, and there is much about hunting in the book. The authors searched for and found the Littledale's letters and diaries, from which they developed the narrative. Nicholas Clinch was formerly president of the Alpine Club and is an experienced mountaineer in his own right. The foreword is by mountaineer Chris Bonington. A fascinating and little-known story. Softcover, 324 pages. like new.
