Description: 1963 SOUTH FROM SAN FRANCISCO Book 1st Ed SIGNED Frank Stanger History San Mateo Click images to enlarge Description VINTAGE HB BOOK Wonderful vintage hardbound book titled SOUTH FROM SAN FRANCISCO, written by Frank M. Stanger - this is a first edition dated 1963 on both the title and copyright page. Measuring 10-1/4" tall by 7-1/2" wide at 214 pages, book was introduced at the new San Mateo Historical Museum Grand Inauguration on October 27, 1963. Dr. Stanger was a County Historian, and book was purchased at the opening - he personally signed the book on the dedication page. Filled with about 125 black and white photographs, it covers the county of San Mateo and the Peninsula with wonderful historical stories and documentation. I will include the bookmark and flier obtained at the time of purchase. Condition is lovely with no damage other than scuffing, paper fraying with a hint of rippling where the original label was applied - I left it in place since it is bonded to the paper. The book is covered rather crudely with Mylar to protect the boards - there is a hint of tanning on the exterior of the hand cut page edges - contents are clean. Informative, entertaining and beautifully written, it would be a wonderful addition to any collection! If questions, please contact me - thanks!
