Description: 1788 BRITIAN TOKEN SPADE HALF GUINEA George III. This coin is called an imitation 'spade' half guinea. Despite the year, it was mass produced by Charles Peverelle beginning in 1866 in Birmingham, England. This coin is right on the money for being made of brass and is 20.1 mm in diameter, and is considered to be a "holed" brass. The obverse has the bust of King George III with the words Charles Peverelle MAKER BIRM for Birmingham. It also has a reeded edge. Very interesting story behind these gaming tokens and are nice keepsakes and will be mailed in a protective holder. Thanks for looking!
